Organizations hosting candidate, issue forum
The League of Women Voters and Kids Voting Mesa County will hold a candidate and issue forum starting at 7 p.m. Monday.
First up in the forum, held at the Grand Junction City Hall, 250 5th St., will be a question-and-answer session between Republican Steve King and Democrat Claudette Konola, who are vying for Senate District 7.
The two candidates will answer three prepared questions and then take questions from the audience.
At 8 p.m., proponents and supporters of several county and state ballot questions will debate the merits and pitfalls of each.
That part of the forum will cover Referred Measure 1A, which asks voters if they want medical marijuana dispensaries to remain in the county; the tax- and debt-limiting Amendments 60 and 61 and Proposition 101; Amendment 63 to opt out of the newly passed federal health care measure; and Proposition 102 to limit the use of the county’s pretrial services program.
