Outdoors Heritage Day coming April 28 in Palisade
Kids and their parents are invited to attend the fifth annual Outdoor Heritage Day celebration 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 at Riverbend Park in Palisade.
The day-long celebration introduces families to the various outdoor opportunities Colorado has to offer, and the event’s many sponsors will help provide them the information they need to pursue those activities on their own.
“Many families want to spend more time outdoors, and may just not know where to go or what to do,” said District Wildlife Manager Frank McGee of Colorado Parks and Wildlife. “You’ll see plenty of us there who will be happy to help families learn how to have fun outside.”
Kids of all ages can enjoy a variety of fun outdoor activities including fishing, archery, shooting a .22 rifle, and a hunting simulator. The park’s lakes will be freshly stocked with plenty of catchable trout, including extra large brood stock, and everyone is encouraged to bring their own fishing gear. Youth who don’t have their own fishing tackle can earn a free rod and reel by participating in a short fishing clinic.
“Every year we receive great feedback from parents,” said McGee. “It’s fun, it’s outside, it’s free and we are looking forward to a big turnout.”
A free lunch will also be provided.
