Palisade fixing water main leak

Most water users in Palisade shouldn’t experience a lack of water as town workers fix a leak in a main distribution line, town public works officials said today.

Town workers will be shutting off water from Palisade’s Rapid Creek Water Treatment Plant and using a backup water source throughout the Ute Water Conservancy District.

Palisade will be connected to the water at 11 a.m. It is unknown how long it will take for workers to repair the line.

Those affected by the switch will be all customers on Rapid Creek Road and two customers on U.S. Highway 6. Those users will be out of water for the duration of the water line repair, the town said.

People should be aware that Ute Water is different from regular city water in that it contains chloramines. Chloramines do not chemically de-chlorinate as easily as the free chlorine used in town water, town officials said.

Those on dialysis and those who have fish tanks would be most affected by the difference in water treatments.
