Palisade, Gene Taylor’s both rally for victories
The Palisade B legion baseball team rallied Thursday for a 12-8 victory over Sterling at the Legion B state tournament in Frisco.
Trailing 8-1 in the third inning, Palisade turned to Tass Crow on the mound. Crow shut down Sterling’s bats, allowing the Palisade offense to get untracked.
Palisade scored seven runs in the sixth inning, stringing together a bunch of singles, to take a 9-8 lead. In the seventh inning, T.J. Tway provided some breathing room, hitting a three-run home run for a 12-8 lead.
Tway’s 2 for 3, 5 RBI day was one of the highlights for Palisade on offense. Quinn Clark was 3 for 4 with two RBI and Troy Livingston also had two RBI and went 2 for 3.
Palisade plays Eagle Valley at 9 a.m. today.
Gene Taylor’s 10, Greeley Gojos 8
The Gene Taylor’s legion baseball team clinched a berth in the state tournament with Thursday’s win at Canyon View Park.
Gene Taylor’s struck early, with Drew Bridges hitting an RBI triple and scoring on a groundout in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Gene Taylor’s led 4-1 until the top of the fifth inning, when Greeley scored six runs of Gene Taylor’s starter Walker Williams.
Gene Taylor’s responded in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring five runs to retake the lead. A bases-loaded walk to Ty Butard scored the first run, then Cole Cummins singled in another. With the bases still loaded, Evan McDermott hit a two-run single to give Gene Taylor’s the lead. The final run in the inning scored on an error, making a winner of Williams, who pitched six innings, allowing seven runs — three earned — on 10 hits with three walks and one strikeout. Josh Moore pitched the final three innings to earn the save.
McDermott went 4 for 5 with three RBI and Zach Lebsock and Taylor each had two RBI. Bridges was the only other Gene Taylor’s player with more than one hit, adding another triple to the one in the first.
Gene Taylor’s plays a doubleheader with Greeley today at Canyon View and a sweep would give the team its second straight division title.
