Palisade has an Olde Fashioned Christmas
The memories and magic of Christmas will blanket Palisade during its Olde Fashioned Christmas celebration happening Friday through Sunday, Dec. 6–8, in Palisade.
The lighting of the town Christmas tree at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, will start the celebration, followed by carols sung by the Taylor Elementary Serenaders as you to line up along the route for the parade of lights that will begin at 6 p.m. Warm beverages and soup will be available to purchase.
After the parade, there will be a showing of “It’s Wonderful Life” at the Canyon View Vineyard Church at Third and Main streets.
Events continue Saturday, however the recent snow and cold have resulted in some location changes for various activities set to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Olde Fashioned Christmas Marketplace will be in the renovated gym on Seventh Street. Vendors will set up in the parking lot north of the new firehouse that is adjacent to the gym.
The soup challenge can be found in the trustee boardroom in the firehouse.
The historical tours, carriage rides, Santa’s Workshop and other events can be found downtown.
The Gingerbread Contest Showcase will open at 11 a.m. at The Palisade Community Center, and winners in a variety of categories will be announced at 1 p.m.
“Bethlehem Morning,” the 14th annual community Christmas cantata, will be performed at 1 p.m. Saturday at Palisade United Methodist Church, 365 Main St.
The Palisade Historical Society will offer guided walking tours at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The walks will begin at The History Center, 311 S. Main St. A donation of $5 is requested for adults taking the walking tours. Children younger than 12 must be accompanied. The Society also will host its annual patron appreciation open house at the Palisade Branch Library. It will feature a number of book-signings with area authors.
On Sunday, Dec. 8, a Christmas Tea will be served from noon to 2 p.m. downstairs in the Palisade Community Center (it was formally set to be at the Recycled Art Gallery and Studio) and the Gingerbread Showcase will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
