Palisade taps new town clerk
Former assistant Palisade town treasurer Lindsey Chitwood was sworn in as the town clerk during Tuesday night’s board meeting.
Chitwood replaces longtime town clerk Carol Speakman, who was fired about two weeks ago.
Town manager Rich Sales was ill and absent from Tuesday’s meeting to comment on Speakman’s departure.
According to Palisade Police Chief Carroll Quarles, Speakman had medical issues and had not appeared for work.
The Daily Sentinel left a voicemail for Speakman on her cell phone Tuesday, but she did not return a call back for comment.
In other news, Town Trustee Robert Magill resigned his position, serving as a board member for the last time Tuesday. Magill, who is a wildlife biologist, may move to Moab to pursue work there as an adjunct professor. Magill first was appointed, then elected to a four-year term in April. Trustees said on Tuesday night they would advertise the opening for two weeks in The Palisade Tribune and applications for consideration of appointment to the board would be accepted until Aug. 3.
