Palisade leads way on All-WSL baseball team

In 2010, the Palisade High School baseball team was as individually talented as any team in the Western Slope League.

When the 2010 WSL All-Conference team was released Friday, the Bulldogs (14-6, 11-3 WSL) had seven players honored.

Palisade had five players on the first team, led by seniors Mike Seriani and Jordan Salazar. The Bulldogs’ other first-team players were sophomore Cole Cummins and juniors Pete Lelich and Cody Krabbe.

“Those guys all had good years and had the right to be on those teams,” Palisade coach Steve Moore said. “They worked hard and mastered their positions.”

The two Bulldogs on the honorable mention list were senior first baseman Drew Clinkingbeard and sophomore Caleb Hall.

Moore said Seriani, Salazar and Clinkingbeard, the Bulldogs’ only seniors, were as valuable in the dugout as they were on the field.

“It wasn’t only their ability, but their leadership showed throughout the year,” Moore said. “They took the young guys under their wings and didn’t allow them to feel like sophomores.”

Delta had seven players selected all-conference, including three on the first team, led by Ethan Kraai, the WSL player of the year.

Kraai is one of two Western Slope players in the Top 50 Senior All-Star Baseball Game at Coors Field on June 13. Hotchkiss’ Patrick Sullivan has also been selected to play in the game.

Palisade sisters Amelia and Flannery Davis made the first team on the WSL All-Conference soccer team.

Palisade had three players selected honorable mention: MacKenzie Clark, Hannah Etcheverry and Natalie Combs.

Glenwood Springs’ Leah Mansfield was selected the player of the year.
