Paonia’s Reed wins second title

Jesse Reed, a returning state champion for Paonia High School defeated Stetson Loader of Baca County, 7-5, in their Class 2A 120-pound title match.

Bobby Reed, Jesse’s father was in his corner as an assistant coach with the Eagles. Bobby Reed was a 1979 state champion at Paonia as well.

Reed, a sophomore, was ranked No.1 with a record of 26-2 and Loader, a junior, was ranked No. 2 with a record of 36-4. Loader finished second as a freshman and fourth as a sophomore. Reed is halfway toward becoming a four-time state champion. This has been achieved only 16 times since the tournament began in 1936.

The Colorado State Wrestling Championships conclude this evening at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
