Parachute police investigate stabbing
Parachute police arrested a man early Thursday morning in connection with a stabbing in which the victim had to be airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
Police responded to the stabbing around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of North Russey Avenue in Parachute, Chief Cary Parmenter said in a news release.
He said the suspect, James Shannon, 42, fled the scene before officers arrived.
Authorities sent out an alert warning residents to stay inside and lock their doors, and police from Rifle and New Castle joined in a search of the north side of town along with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and a sheriff’s canine team. Shannon was located and arrested without incident just after 12:30 a.m., and booked into the Garfield County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault.
