Party caucuses in GJ set for March 4

Both major political parties are preparing their 2014 precinct caucuses around Grand Junction on March 4.

According to the Mesa County Democrats, caucuses are a vital part of the democratic process, where registered voters come together to discuss elected officials, elect local leaders, and elect representatives for upcoming county and district assemblies.

U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, a Republican whose 3rd Congressional District includes the Grand Valley, said in an email that the caucuses are “a great way to get involved and make a difference in the political process here in Colorado.”

Caucus events are scheduled for 7 p.m. that night.

According to the Secretary of State’s office, if you want to vote in a political party precinct caucus this year, you must have been affiliated with the party conducting the caucus since at least Jan. 6, 2014.

Colorado Republicans can find their specific precinct location by going to and entering their information.

Democrats can go to, and click “Manage My Registration,” to find their precinct.

Many precinct caucuses are held in private homes and in local schools, among other locations. Check to see the specific precinct in which you are registered.
