Pedestrian hit by car, which leaves crash scene; cops looking for driver

The Grand Junction Police Department is seeking information about a hit and run crash that happened at approximately 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of North Avenue and 12th Street.

An 18-year-old woman was walking north across North Avenue from the southeast corner of the intersection by Stocker Stadium Wednesday evening when a driver turned right from 12th Street onto North Avenue, according to information posted on the department’s website. The vehicle hit the woman’s foot and spun her around, according to the police department. The driver did not stop at the scene of the crash.

The woman who was hit said the vehicle involved in the incident was a dark-colored SUV with tinted windows.

Police officers have so far been unable to locate the driver.

A “walk” signal was activated at the time of the crash, permitting the walker to cross. The teen was treated at a local hospital and released.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is encouraged to contact the police department by calling non-emergency dispatch at 242-6707.
