Pet store plans to open on Redlands

A new pet supply and grooming business will open by the end of July in the Redlands Marketplace strip mall, 2518 Broadway.

New tenant Chow Down will offer dog and pet supplies, specialty food, training and a self-serve dog-washing station.

Chow Down is based in Evergreen and has stores there and in Fairplay. Co-owner Jay Henry said he hopes to open a fourth store later this year in Salida.

Henry owns the business with friends Joe and Kristi Bush and his wife, Kelly.

Jay and Kelly bought a house in Grand Junction in 1999 and found the locals to be health-conscious and pet-friendly.

“We always thought this would be the perfect place to have a pet store,” Jay Henry said.

The pair walk their dogs around Connected Lakes and wanted a storefront in that area. When a unit in Redlands Marketplace became available, the pair jumped at the chance to move in.

“We’ll have good access to Broadway, but it’s a little off the beaten path, so there won’t be as much congestion,” Henry said.

A grand opening this summer for Chow Down will include free food, activities for kids and fun for pets.
