Piece of the good life

Membership rental startup offers lots of toys

Brock Wade of Toys-4-U rents a long list of items that range from Corvettes and Hummers to boats, motorcycles, ATVs and campers. He says the company, which offers a membership for a monthly fee, even rents child car seats to go with the rented vehicles.

A little piece of the good life is available for $119 a month.

New Grand Junction rental business Toyz-4-U offers all-terrain vehicles, boats, trucks, trailers, classic and heavy-duty cars, limousines, kayaks, jet skis, snow machines, camping and backpacking accessories, tools, bump-n-jumps and more to its members. Memberships go for $119 a month for a 24-month contract or $149 a month for 12 months.

Brock Wade and Mike Watson own Toyz-4-U, located at 596 23 1/2 Road. Watson thought up the idea to rent the “toys” enjoyed by the elite in their off time after telling his wife it was time someone created a store “that gives us all we ever wanted” for a price more people can afford.

“For a minimal fee people can elevate their lifestyle,” Watson said.

The business operates on the idea that several people helping to pay for several vehicles or accessories with memberships can enjoy a wider variety of toys than a person paying off one ATV or one boat each month. Members can rent anything on the lot for 24 hours any day of the month and pay $49 for each additional day if they need a camper for the week or a Corvette for the weekend.

Wade said Toyz-4-U offers access to the good life during a time when the economy may not allow someone to buy multiple “toys.”

“Everybody wants that lifestyle and we’re providing that,” he said.

The company has 40 to 50 members and is looking for more. Special deals for churches are available, as well as for businesses. An employer can buy a bulk membership or a group of five or more employees can pay $99 each for memberships.

While the name suggests big ticket items are the norm at Toyz-4-U, the business also offers everyday items such as vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers and cribs, plus plenty of pool toys and other items for kids. The goal is to see to everyone’s needs, Wade said, even if they just need to put a car seat in a visiting grandparent’s back seat.

“We’re blanketing as much as we can and laying it out like a picnic,” he said.
