Police await autopsy on body found in Rifle Creek

RIFLE — An autopsy is scheduled for this morning of a man’s body that was found floating in Rifle Creek in Rifle.

Lt. J.R. Boulton of the Rifle Police Department said a fisherman found the body in the area of U.S. Highway 6 around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Garfield County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue workers recovered the body. County deputy coroner Thomas Walton said an identification card was found on the body, but that authorities weren’t certain about the man’s identity.

Authorities also had no immediate information on the possible cause of death.
