A 58-year-old Grand Junction man who died after his motorcycle crashed in Glade Park on Sunday has been identified.

Wayne Gitchell was wearing a helmet and alcohol is not considered a factor in the fatal crash that occurred just before 11 a.m. on DS Road, about 10 miles southwest of Grand Junction.

Gitchell died of multiple injuries and his death is ruled an accident, according to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.

Gitchell was heading westbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the bike on a curve and crashed through a barbed wire fence, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Gitchell was ejected from his motorcycle and thrown 44 feet, the State Patrol said.
