Police: Man admitted having sex with girl, 15
A 31-year-old man accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl allegedly admitted as much to police, according to an arrest record in the case.
Justin Harris, who appeared Monday in Mesa County Court and was advised on a possible charge of sex assault on a child from a position of trust, allegedly told an investigator that he has on multiple occasions had sex with the girl. His arrest affidavit also alleges that he admitted the sexual relationship to an adult family member related to the girl, via text message.
According to the affidavit, the girl disclosed the abuse to a school counselor. She described during a forensic interview a detailed sexual relationship between herself and Harris that involved at least three separate incidents, investigators wrote.
Assistant District Attorney Rich Tuttle called the allegations “very aggravated,” and sought a secured bond in the case. A defense attorney noted Harris’ lack of criminal history, saying he’s never had contact with law enforcement in the past.
Mesa County Court Judge Crag Henderson, citing the seriousness of the allegations, issued Harris a $25,000 cash-only bond on Monday, saying he needed assurances that Harris would not be around children.
Harris’ next court date was set for May 23.
