Police starting to move into new, larger building
The new public safety complex between Pitkin and Ute avenues and Sixth and Fifth streets is close to done but not yet open to the public.
The Grand Junction Police Department sent a press release Monday to media outlets saying the outside of the building is nearly finished, which has tempted some people to attempt to access police services at the new building.
The building, however, will not be ready for the public until at least late August.
The city of Grand Junction received a temporary certificate of occupancy Friday and has started moving furniture and other items into the building. The moving process will take at least six weeks, according to the Police Department.
The police station on Ute Avenue between Sixth and Seventh streets is still open to the public for now.
Citizens are asked to park in a police parking lot along Ute Avenue to reach the station.
