Forest fire in GarCo

About 120 firefighters were working to contain a lightning-caused forest fire that was reported Thursday afternoon in rural Garfield County.

The Echo Creek fire was burning on approximately 70 acres Friday afternoon in pinyon-juniper shrubs about one-fourth of a mile from ranch structures. The fire is burning within a few miles of some oil and gas wells, but firefighters are working to keep the blaze from getting nearer, according to fire officials with the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

Jamie Codie Sheeks, 24, 2857 Elm Drive, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, drug distribution and driving with a revoked driver’s license.

Vandals broke into a home Thursday night in the 500 block of Court Road and caused damage estimated to be less than $1,000.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:

Cody Cason Pumphrey, 20, homeless, was arrested Friday on suspicion of escape from community corrections.

Items were taken from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 3000 block of Country Road on Thursday night.
