Biocide leak cleaned up
A private hazardous-materials contractor is cleaning up about 40 gallons of a biocide along a section of westbound Interstate 70 between the Palisade and Clifton exits, Colorado Department of Transportation officials said Thursday.
The liquid, which is used to killed plants and microorganisms in drilling wells, leaked from barrels on a truck for about a quarter-mile along the interstate about two days ago, CDOT spokeswoman Stacy Stegman said.
The cleanup is expected to take another day.
Hunter gunshots reported
Residents of a Fruitvale home became concerned when it appeared hunters were shooting toward their house. Mesa County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the Dec. 4 incident in the 300 block of 29 Road. The hunters told police they were shooting toward a pond in the area and not at the home.
Deputies are attempting to determine whether a crime was committed, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Lakeside apartment fire
The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a fire Thursday that damaged an unoccupied apartment unit at 1155 Lakeside Drive. Firefighters were dispatched at 11:14 a.m. to apartment 504 after a fire alarm was activated, the department said in a news release.
Nobody was found inside the unit, and a fire on the second floor was quickly put out.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
Preston Wade Stowe, 25, homeless, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of violating parole, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and criminal impersonation.
Estella Brown, 19, was issued a summons on suspicion she shoplifted items valued at less than $100 from Walmart, 2881 North Ave.
Tamra Harbottle, 41, was issued a summons on suspicion she shoplifted items valued at less than $100 from Herberger’s, 2424 U.S. Highway 6&50.
Charlotte Rowden, 21, was issued a summons on suspicion she took items valued at less than $500 at Walmart, 2545 Rimrock Drive.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:
Graffiti was reported on the front door of a home in the 3000 block of Colorado Ave. on Dec. 1.
Property was damaged and items valued at $300 were stolen in the 3100 block of Interstate 70 Business Loop on Dec. 4.
A man told deputies he left a gun in a holster on top of a vehicle Dec. 5 and drove a few blocks before realizing he had left it there. When he stopped the car and looked for his gun, he could not find it and reported it missing to police.
Deputies received a report Tuesday that a juvenile had been assaulted by a parent in the 700 block of Foxfire Court.
A woman reported her wallet, containing $750, was stolen Dec. 1.
