Increase in DUI patrols
The Colorado State Patrol’s Fruita troop, Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s Department will be among 24 law enforcement agencies statewide stepping up drunken-driving patrols for the Super Bowl weekend, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Extra officers will be on patrol from 6 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Monday. From 2006 to 2008, half of the fatal accidents in Colorado over the Super Bowl weekend involved alcohol.
Deputies get smoking call
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Department said a Clifton woman called Monday, seeking assistance to keep her husband from smoking in their home because she runs a child day care out of the home. The woman was told that law enforcement couldn’t keep her husband from smoking.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
Jose Zamudio, 20, address unavailable, was issued a summons Monday on suspicion of harassment after he allegedly shot BB pellets at geese in the area of Dike Road. A passenger in his vehicle, Eric Lopez-Baca, 19, address unavailable, also was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Detectives are investigating a report from Friday involving a juvenile girl suspected of sexually assaulting two juvenile boys in the northwest part of the city. Further details were not released.
