Potholes victim identified
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the man who died Sunday at the “potholes” on Glade Park as 27-year-old Michael Jacob “Jake” Higgins of Grand Junction.
Higgins fell about 40 feet onto rocks near the Little Dolores River. According to a news release from the coroner’s office, the death was an accident, and the cause of death was blunt-force head injuries.
Alcohol and marijuana use contributed to the accident, according to the coroner’s office.
Sexual assault alleged
Mesa County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a 21-year-old man Sunday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in Gateway.
According to an arrest affidavit for Colt R. Pace, the boy told deputies Pace grabbed the boy’s crotch at Gateway Canyons Resort, grabbed the boy’s neck and pulled the boy’s hand to Pace’s groin. The boy also told deputies Pace slammed into the boy’s ATV with his truck after the incident.
Pace told deputies the two were just “horsing around,” according to the affidavit.
Pace was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by force, harassment with physical contact, simple child abuse, criminal mischief and criminal attempt.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
Tracy Brown, 35, was issued a summons Sunday on suspicion of indecent exposure after she allegedly took off her clothes while in public view.
Dustin Fergeson, 27, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of damaging property at 585 25 1/2 Road.
Cullen Robertson, 21, was issued a summons Sunday on suspicion of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at N. First Street and W. Park Drive.
Myles Camron Copeland, 21, was issued a summons Sunday on suspicion of third-degree assault at 2595 Fruitridge Drive.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:
Someone reported people in a vehicle shot at various road signs and the person’s mailbox at 57018 U.S. Highway 330 in Collbran with a shotgun.
Someone broke a rear side window on a Honda van Saturday night, causing $300 in damage, in the 400 block of Mae Street.
Someone entered and damaged a vehicle Sunday in the 600 block of Holland Street.
