Couple stopped, arrested
Antonio Perez, 28, and Gracelia Maldonado, 24, both of Anaheim, Calif, were arrested Sunday after a traffic stop on Interstate 70 turned up some 14 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, which was stored in 13 packages hidden behind the passenger-side dashboard of the couple’s vehicle, according to arrest affidavits.
The packages were discovered after an officer used a power drill on the passenger-side air bag. The traffic stop occurred along eastbound on I-70 near milepost 10 at 11 a.m.
Perez and Maldono were ordered held on $100,000 bonds.
Woman reports assault
Grand Junction police on Monday were looking for a man accused of assaulting a woman with a knife after surprising her in her home in the 1800 block of 20th Street, near the intersection with Orchard Avenue.
Police spokeswoman Kate Porras said the woman reported coming home around 12:30 p.m. and noticing her television in the living room. She normally kept the television in her bedroom.
The woman said she was pinned against a wall by a man brandishing a knife, Porras said. The man fled.
He was described by police as white, in his 20s or 30s with short brown hair, a black hooded sweatshirt and a black shirt underneath.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:
Several tools were reported missing Sunday after an unlocked vehicle was burglarized in the 3100 block of Orson Avenue.
According to the Delta Police Department:
Robert Costa, 49, Grand Junction, address unavailable, was arrested and jailed Feb. 24 on suspicion of tampering with evidence. Karon Renwick, 52, of Delta, address unavailable, was issued a ticket in the same incident on suspicion of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana.
