Driver dies of aneurism

An 81-year-old Grand Junction man suffered a fatal heart condition before causing a six-car crash Wednesday, authorities said Thursday.

The Grand Junction Police Department said in a news release that Clyde Riegel suffered an aortic aneurism Wednesday afternoon while behind the wheel of a Mercury sedan on Horizon Drive. His car collided with several other vehicles at the road’s intersection with G Road.

Riegel did not sustain any injuries in the crash, police said.

Riegel and two others with minor injuries in the accident were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital. No citations will be issued.

Man hurt in 3-car crash

A three-car crash at a north Grand Junction intersection sent one person to the hospital Thursday afternoon, according to Grand Junction police.

The driver of a Ford Ranger traveling east on G Road ran the stop sign at 23 Road, and as the truck went through the intersection, the driver of a northbound pickup hit the back end of the Ford.

The Ford then hit a third pickup and a telephone pole, Grand Junction police spokeswoman Kate Porras said.

The driver of the Ford was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital. His injuries and condition were unknown. The other two drivers were not hurt, Porras said.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

Charles Neal Duran, 32, 2713 B 1/2 Road, No. 12, was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of first-degree burglary and third-degree assault.

Benjamin Ray Lucero, 25, 307 Acoma Drive, Unit A, was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of complicity and third-degree assault.

Eric Andrews, 28, address unknown, was issued a summons Tuesday on suspicion of child abuse after he allegedly pushed a 4-year-old child, sending him several feet across the room of a home.

The child had crawled onto Andrews after he passed out in a chair at the home, police spokeswoman Kate Porras said.
