One person is dead and one man was taken into custody at 11:30 p.m. Sunday after an apparent stabbing in a Fruitvale home.

Police today have identified their suspect as Octavio Vargas-Herrera.

At 9 p.m., the Grand Junction Police Department was dispatched to 2908 1/2 Walnut Ave. in the Arbors subdivision on the report of a stabbing.

Authorities found one person dead inside the home, said Grand Junction Police Department spokeswoman Kate Porras.

The Arbors is a subdivision off 29 Road and Orchard Avenue in Fruitvale. Homes in the subdivision appeared to be newer single-story residences with stucco and stone exteriors. Blinds and curtains were closed on all neighboring homes, and no neighbors were seen outside.

According to earlier police dispatch reports, the victim was a woman in her 20s and a man with a knife drove away from the scene in a dark-colored vehicle.
