Police seek driver after hit-and-run accident

Grand Junction police are seeking a driver in an early Saturday morning hit-and-run crash in Fruitvale that injured three teenage passengers.

Five teenagers were traveling in a Honda Civic at 4 a.m. on Hermosa Court off 29 Road, when the driver failed to stop at the end of the cul-de-sac, hit a fence and rammed the vehicle into a tree, Grand Junction Police Department Sgt. William Baker said.

The driver ran away and now faces charges related to a hit-and-run accident, Baker said.

Excessive speed was a factor in the crash, Baker said.

“It looks like the driver was going way too fast, and the road ended and they didn’t,” he said.

Three of the teenagers were injured at the scene, but they were able to walk around.

Baker said he didn’t know if any of them were taken to a hospital.

The driver may be facing a felony charge if any of the passengers sustained serious bodily injury, which would include broken bones or disfigurement.

Two 19-year-old men and one 16-year-old girl were injured. The fourth teenage passenger, an 18-year-old boy, was not injured, Baker said.
