A 28-year-old Fruita man was arrested Sunday after a traffic stop took a turn for the worse. He allegedly fled the scene and eventually was shot with a Taser gun.

Travis Lee Lucero, 1022 E. Laura Ave., was arrested on suspicion of driving with a revoked license for previous traffic offenses, a parole violation, two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of obstructing an officer, trespassing, DUI and several traffic violations.

The incident began near 32 Road and ended in the 500 block of Sara Lane.

His wife, Marianne Kristen Lucero, 26, was arrested during the same incident on suspicion of lying to police to aid her husband in fleeing from officers, as well as denying knowledge of who he was, according to the couple’s joint arrest affidavit from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.

At 1:40 a.m. Sunday, the white Chevrolet truck Travis Lucero was driving was pulled over after he made a left turn in a right-turn-only lane, the affidavit said.

After Lucero was asked to get out of his vehicle on suspicion of DUI, he cooperated briefly before telling authorities he was leaving and ran away.

A deputy chased Lucero.

Marianne Lucero stayed behind while a Sheriff’s Department corporal watched her.

It took seven deputies to locate Travis Lucero, who hid in a yard and on the roof of a home on Sara Lane, according to authorities.

The owner of the home pressed trespassing charges.

When Lucero eventually was located, he fought with deputies before being Tased, his affidavit said.

Lucero was injured during the struggle and taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment before being taken to the Mesa County Jail.

According to the conditions of Lucero’s parole, he was not to contact his wife and was supposed to wear an ankle monitor.

Deputies said Travis Lucero wasn’t wearing a monitor.
