Politics not as usual
Patty Hanna is never going to make it to the upper echelons of the American political system like this. You don’t win a disputed election, then step aside so your opponent can serve, just because you believe that is what’s best for the community.
Hanna did just that in Palisade this week, after she and fellow Town Board candidate Penny Prinster tied for one of three vacancies on the Palisade Board of Trustees. Town Clerk Carol Speakman decided to break the tie by drawing a name from a hat. Hanna won the hat trick, but immediately deferred to Prinster because Prinster is retired and, Hanna said, the town “will be better served” with Prinster on the board.
The two women served on the board together until 2006, so Hanna knows the kind of elected representative Prinster will be.
The Palisade Town Board will have the final say on who fills that seat. But we applaud Hanna for not adopting the me-first attitude of so many politicians, and doing what she believes is best for her community.
