Pork ‘n’ Hops Challenge to take over park
Hoppy days, and nights, are here again with the Pork ‘n’ Hops Challenge.
This is the fourth year for the challenge, which will take over Lincoln Park from Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 9–11.
This Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Great American Barbecue Tour and state championship will feature 50 professional barbecue teams from across the country and the aroma of barbecue that wafts for blocks.
Along with the daily events such as a Bump ‘n’ Jump, carnival rides and extreme activities, here is what’s on tap at the Pork ‘n’ Hops:
Thursday: The event is open 6–10 p.m. with free admission. There will be a micro brew sampling from 6–10 p.m. It’s one price for all the micro brew you can sample.
On the stage, Delta Phase Power will perform at 6:30 p.m. and Atlantic Records artist Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights will play at 8 p.m.
Friday: Open from 3–10 p.m., admission is $5 per adult and kids 12 and younger are free.
The music lineup will feature The Tankerays at 4 p.m., The Williams Brothers at 6 p.m. and Boogie Machine at 8 p.m.
Saturday: Admission is $20 per adult and the event is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Children 12 and younger are free.
Tim Brown will perform at 1 p.m.; The Pineapple Crackers, 2 p.m.; Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand, 6 p.m.; and Diamond Rio, 8 p.m.
The competition’s award ceremony will be at 3:30 p.m.
The U.S. Bank People’s Choice professional barbecue sampling begins at noon. A $5 ticket gets you 10 samples from the pros. Buy as many tickets as you want and vote for your favorite barbecue until the samples are gone. The proceeds will be donated to United Way.
On Friday and Saturday, a free shuttle will take people from the Mesa Mall parking lot by the Cabela’s and JC Penney wing (near McDonald’s), to Lincoln Park every 30 minutes.
The shuttle will run from 5–10 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.
