Postal Service is looking for Orchard Mesa spot

A limited-services post office housed in the First National Bank of the Rockies on Orchard Mesa will close in September, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

David Rupert, postal spokesman for Colorado, said the bank at 2775 Acrin Ave. has declined to renew its contract with the U.S. Postal Service.

The contract ends in September, but the Postal Service is seeking other vendors or businesses in the Orchard Mesa area to take on providing the services.

“Usually you find these with businesses that want a little more traffic,” Rupert said.

Post offices contained in businesses are called contract postal units.

Rupert said the Postal Service cannot comment yet on whether any other businesses have expressed interest in offering a contract postal unit on Orchard Mesa.

“It’s our intention to have another one,” he said.

Grand Junction has one other contract postal unit at Go-Fer Foods, 2146 Broadway.
