Postal Service to replace units after those at mall, Horizon Drive close

The U.S. Postal Service plans to replace the Mesa Mall and 759 Horizon Drive contract postal units that will shut down on April 18.

The Postal Service hopes to have the new contract postal units open by the end of May, according to Postal Service retail specialist Lisa Roberts. Roberts said she has received a number of calls and leads from people interested in entering a business partnership with the Postal Service.

The owner of the two locations made the decision to shut down. He will keep a third location, 2139 N. 12th St., open with no post office boxes, Grand Junction Postmaster Daniel Reyes said.

Customers affected by the closings can get P.O. boxes at Grand Junction’s main post office, 241 N. Fourth St., or Fruitvale Station Post Office, 2923 North Ave., based on availability, Reyes said.

“So far we have been able to accommodate anybody wanting to switch P.O. boxes,” Reyes said.

He said he may add P.O. boxes at the Fruitvale post office.

Customers east or west of Grand Junction may find it convenient to set up P.O. boxes in the Fruita or Clifton post offices, he said.
