Powderhorn extends its season by one weekend
Thanks to a hefty snow base with more snow expected this week, Powderhorn Mountain Resort will reopen for a bonus weekend Saturday and Sunday.
Powderhorn Marketing Manager Dave Smith said the idea to extend the season was seriously tossed around once officials looked at the forecast and saw chances of snow through mid-week, with highs near 40 for the first weekend in April.
The original closing day was supposed to be Sunday.
“We’re excited,” he said. “If the weather forecast wasn’t going to be favorable that wouldn’t entice as many people to come up, but if we’re going to have fresh snow and still skiing on great conditions, we are hoping people will come back up and enjoy themselves.”
The Take-Four Quad lift will run 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Single-day adult lift tickets will be $20, but season passes will be valid.
The Sunset Bar & Grille, rental department and retail department, having a 40-percent off sale, also will be open.
The popular, end-of-season Pond Skimming Competition was moved to 2 p.m. Saturday. Call 970-268-5700, ext. 2040 to register. The event is limited to 60 participants.
Tony Rosario will play live music Saturday and The Gerry Goodman Band on Sunday.
There won’t be lessons or tubing available, but next season’s lift passes are on sale at 30 percent off regular season price.
Powderhorn is reporting a 70-inch base at mid-mountain with good snow cover at the bottom, Smith said.
