Resort asks for tubers’ help in naming hill

Powderhorn Mountain Resort is going for the tubes.

Not down the tubes. For them.

The resort is working to open a tubing hill this winter and is preparing to ask skiers to name the new attraction, said Tricia Tittle, sales and communications manager.

The new tubing hill and surface lift is being built just west of the EZ Rider lift and is one of the most visible changes being put in by the new ownership of Andy Daly, Ken Gart and Tom Gart.

Work began this winter after the resort obtained necessary permits, Tittle said.

With construction under way, the next step is to name the new attraction, and Powderhorn is asking for suggestions via Facebook. Skiers with suggestions can participate in the naming contest by liking Powderhorn on Facebook, Tittle said.

Powderhorn hopes to open the hill in about two weeks, Tittle said.

The resort, meanwhile, is awaiting a storm that will deliver enough snow for a halfpipe, she said. In the meantime, temperatures have been cold enough that the resort has been able to make snow, plenty for the resort’s planned New Year’s Eve celebration beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday and culminating with a 6 p.m. torchlight parade.
