Powderhorn Ski Resort auction set for Thursday
Two months after it was announced, the auction of Powderhorn Ski Resort is nearly here.
The auction will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at the resort’s Day Lodge, 48338 Powderhorn Road.
Registration for bidders will begin at 11:30 a.m. that day. A cashier’s check for $10,000 will be required to bid.
Properties are selling in six groups, with all but one selling absolute, meaning there is no minimum or maximum bid needed and the current owners have to agree to the sale regardless of how low the price is. The one property not selling absolute is a roughly 700-acre piece of undeveloped land below the resort property. That property is known as group six.
Group one is the ski resort itself, including the Day Lodge, parking lots, ski lifts, offices, two maintenance shops and inventory. The second group is the Inn at Wildewood, group three is seven undeveloped sites around the resort, group four is more than an acre of development land with an underground parking garage and cement foundation for condos, and group five has 15 single-family lots in the Wildewood Subdivision, plus nearly 17 acres of open space.
If a person wins a bid, that person will have to pay a 10 percent non-refundable deposit and sign a contingency-free contract immediately after the auction to agree to close on the property within 30 days, according to the website for J.P. King, the company auctioning Powderhorn and its related properties.
Anyone who wants to view the properties can schedule a tour between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. any day through auction day. Call 256-504-3178 to make an appointment.
