Power outage being investigated in Grand Junction

Xcel Energy is currently investigating a widespread power outage in Grand Junction.

Xcel spokesman Fred Eggleston said the power company is uncertain as of 9 p.m. Tuesday what caused the power outage or how large the outage area is.

Outages have been reported in the downtown and west parts of Grand Junction as well as the Redlands. Some street lights on North Avenue are without power, according to scanner traffic, and the outage does not appear to be in a solid block but rather a patchwork pattern.

Confirmed affected areas include businesses along U.S. Highway 50 from Mesa Mall almost to downtown Grand Junction, the east side of the Seventh Street Historic District, and North Avenue businesses between Fourth and 12th streets.
