Prom dresses sought for giveaway event

A Prom Dress Drive is under way, offering teens in the Grand Valley who don’t have the financial resources to buy new dresses an opportunity to experience their high school prom in style.

This year’s drive is sponsored by The House, a Safe Place for Western Slope Teens, and Jo’s Clothes Consignment, in association with Karis Inc.

The public is invited to drop off gently used dresses at either Jo’s Clothes Consignment, 251 Colorado Ave., or First Baptist Church, 720 Grand Ave., by Thursday.

The prom dress giveaway will be from 3–7 p.m. March 22–23 at Jo’s Clothes Consignment.

Call Evan at 234-0714 for information.

Exceptions are tire disposal, electronic waste, appliances containing refrigerants and commercially hauled materials. These items are not part of the Free Day program, and their disposal will be subject to normal tipping fees.

Electronic waste is accepted for a fee of 42 cents per pound at the Hazardous Waste Collection Facility.

Free days are set for:

■ Molina Transfer Station — 9 a.m.–5 p.m. March 30

■ Fruita Transfer Station — 9 a.m.–5 p.m. April 6

■ Mesa County Landfill — 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. April 13

■ Gateway Transfer Station — 9 a.m.–2 p.m. April 20

■ De Beque Transfer Station — 9 a.m.–2 p.m. April 27

All waste materials entering the landfill or transfer stations during free day must be tarped and secured. Untarped/unsecured loads will be turned away, no exceptions.

In the event of high wind, call 241-6846 to check on the closure status of the landfill and/or transfer stations. Each facility is subject to closure during periods of high wind as mandated by state regulation and operational procedures.
