Reappoint Lena to Mesa State board
This paper normally reserves endorsements for candidates seeking office through public election. This endorsement is in support of a gubernatorial appointment — that of Lena Elliot to return to the board of trustees of Mesa State College.
Elliot’s first term as a trustee of the college could be described with a few simple adjectives — energetic, dedicated and hard-working.
The last few years have been a period of unprecedented growth for our home-town college.
As the financial world around us has continued to take a dive, Mesa State has only grown to greater heights. This is a success story that western Colorado should be grateful for, as Mesa State College is a critical and integral part of the future of our home.
Much of that success can be attributed to President Tim Foster, who has dedicated his time tirelessly to the college’s future, and certainly to the faculty and board as well. But anyone who knows Lena Elliot knows that she is a whirlwind of energy and passion, and she seldom leaves a goal unmet — particularly when it comes to Mesa State College.
Her term expires this year, and it is up to Gov. Bill Ritter to fill the appointment for the next term. Ritter is a Democrat. Elliot is a long-time Republican.
Gov. Ritter, politics aside, you’ll never find a more dedicated advocate for our home-town college. So on behalf of the Western Slope, listen carefully: Reappoint Ms. Lena!
