Recycling fees more than double in Grand Valley

Waste Management has more than doubled recycling fees for its residential customers in the Grand Valley.

Beginning this month, the cost charged to residents to recycle newspaper, plastic, aluminum and other materials increased from $2 a month to $5 a month.

Waste Management spokeswoman Melissa Kolwaite said the rate hike will cover increasing operating costs.

She declined to say how many customers the rate increase affects, saying the company considers that information proprietary.
