Report on teen’s death in Clifton sent to DA

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Department said Friday that an investigation into the fatal shooting of a Clifton teenager this month has been turned over to District Attorney Pete Hautzinger.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Heather Benjamin said reports in the case were handed over Wednesday.

Authorities have said little about the circumstances surrounding the death of 16-year-old Troy Martinez, who was shot and killed around 3:30 p.m. Sept. 1 outside a home at 619 Susan St.

Sheriff Stan Hilkey has said Martinez was shot by another youth.

The Central High School sophomore’s death was ruled a homicide by the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.

A teenage boy was detained at the scene and led away handcuffed with his hands covered in evidence-protective bags, witnesses at the scene said.

Nobody has been arrested or charged in the case.
