Residents asked to look for guns used in crime

Investigators with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office are asking property owners to be on the lookout for weapons possibly used in a shooting incident on Oct. 5.

Authorities arrested two men in connection with a shooting that wounded three people in Molina, but the suspects were not armed when they were taken into custody. Initial reports indicated a handgun was involved in the shooting.

The two suspects fled on foot from a home on the 53100 block of LE 1/2 Road in Molina and made their way to I-70 via Colorado Highway 65 before they were arrested. Now investigators believe the firearms used in the shooting may have been left or hidden along the way.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is asking all property owners between I-70 and Collbran, along Highway 65, to search their property for any firearm that doesn’t belong to them. Authorities are also asking hikers or citizens who are in the area to look for firearms.

Officials cautioned that if a gun is found, please do not touch it. Instead, mark the location and call dispatch at 242-6707.
