Rifle man dies while working on vehicle

A Rifle-area man died this week when a vehicle apparently fell on him as he was working on it.

Bill Jewell, 73, was found dead Wednesday at 1885 County Road 319 (West Mamm Creek Road) when his wife returned home from work, said Chandra Mortensen, a Garfield County deputy coroner.

Mortensen said she was still waiting on autopsy results, but all indications are that the death resulted from the vehicle falling on him.

On New Year’s Day, Stephan Barley of Meeker died in Fruitvale when a friend’s car he was repairing suddenly rolled, restricting his breathing, the Mesa County Coroner’s Office said.
