Roadwork by mall to resume

Construction is scheduled to resume Monday on U.S. Highway 6&50 between 24 and 24 3/4 roads by Mesa Mall.

The $11 million project funded by FASTER vehicle-registration dollars began in mid-July and went on hiatus just before Thanksgiving. With the holiday shopping season and the bulk of winter past, construction workers and orange cones will return to the roadway through at least June 1.

During this phase of construction, drivers can expect to see: the replacement of asphalt with concrete on eastbound lanes; finishing touches placed on the southern frontage road; curb and gutter work on both sides of the highway; and, toward the end of the project, construction of medians, which will include some greenery and colored stone work that will resemble medians on the Riverside Parkway, according to Jason Smith, a Colorado Department of Transportation resident engineer.

Matt Will, project supervisor with Lawson Construction, said the five left-turn lanes in the project area will gradually close during construction. All but one, near Wendy’s, will reopen. The one that will close is closing for safety reasons, Smith said.
