Russian ambassador: Uranium bid is just business
DENVER — Russia’s ambassador says a bid by his government to enter the U.S. uranium industry is solely a business move.
Sergey Kislyak made the comments Tuesday during a visit to Denver. He told The Denver Post that the bid was a “normal commercial operation — not something that is operating on any political guidance.”
ARMZ, a company owned by the Russian government, wants to buy a controlling share of Uranium One, a Canadian company that operates in the Rockies. It has three uranium production facilities in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin.
Members of Wyoming’s congressional delegation want to make sure the uranium isn’t shipped to Russia or elsewhere.
The company says it plans to sell the uranium to U.S. utilities.
