Scientists discuss Colorado Ice Age discoveries

DENVER — Colorado scientists will discuss their findings from an excavation site near a ski town that unearthed fossils that are at least 43,500 years old.

Scientists at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science today will also show the fossils that were dug up near Snowmass Village that officials say show a well-preserved Ice Age ecosystem. Their findings include Columbian mammoths, mastodons, and plant material.

Museum workers found a total of more than 500 fossil bones. Scientists are calling the discoveries at the site among the most important in Colorado history.

Construction employees unearthed the first fossils in October while working on the expansion of a reservoir.
