Scout troop reports theft of $5,000
When a local Boy Scouts troop went to pay its bills, one parent made an unwelcome discovery.
More than $5,000 had been stolen from an account over the course of the past 12 months, prompting authorities to start investigating who would steal funds from Boy Scouts, said Grand Junction Police Department Sgt. David Stassen.
On Saturday around 5:30 p.m., a parent notified authorities that more than $5,000 was missing from a local troop’s account at a local bank.
The parent needed to withdraw money for activity payments, Stassen said.
Stassen said he couldn’t release more information because of the ongoing investigation.
However, he did say the Boy Scout troop’s entire account wasn’t depleted. The person or people responsible for stealing from the local troop, which Stassen did not identify, faces felony charges when arrested.
