Search continues for man missing in canoe accident

Colorado State Parks employees on boats equipped with sonar searched Thursday for a man presumed dead from a boating accident Wednesday at Crawford State Park Reservoir.

Tyler Korthuis, 22, of Delta has been missing since around 3 p.m. Wednesday, when strong winds are believed to have capsized a canoe he had shared with a friend, Stacy Bjerk, 22, of Nucla.

The two men had been fishing.

“Everything right now indicates this was a tragic accident,” Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee said Thursday.

A team of state parks employees from Denver took over search efforts, searching the bottom of the reservoir with sonar, McKee said.

Bjerk was released Thursday from Delta County Memorial Hospital after being treated for precautionary reasons, McKee said.

The reservoir is south of Crawford off Colorado Highway 92.
