Search for online deal hits jackpot

Michael Pilling talks about the almost-new, fully loaded Ford King Ranch F-150 pickup truck behind him that he won in Autotrader.com’s $50,000 Vehicle Give-A-Way Sweepstakes from Western Slope Ford.

Michael Pilling was on AutoTrader.com to sell some old vehicles and wound up winning two.

The Grand Junction resident entered the $50,000 sweepstakes multiple times during the October-to-December entry period. Pilling had   read a news release about the sweepstakes on the Web site as he tried to e-mail the corporate office to ask for help selling his vehicles.

“I didn’t believe it. My wife didn’t believe it. She got the first phone call,” Pilling said of their good fortune.

Pilling had injured his right arm and back and needed to replace his manual-transmission vehicles with automatics.

“It’s going to be a lot easier to get around town,” he said.

Pilling used his $50,000 prize to buy a 2008 Ford F-150 King Ranch pickup Friday at Western Slope Auto Co., 2264 U.S. Highway 6&50. The truck is practically new, a mere 800 miles on the engine.

Pilling said he has wanted a King Ranch since the first time he saw one. When he received word that he was the AutoTrader.com sweepstakes winner, he rushed to Western Slope Auto because he had heard the dealer had one King Ranch pickup on the lot.

“When I found out they had one down here, there wasn’t anything that could keep me from banging down the door to get it,” Pilling said.

Pilling thanked AutoTrader.com for being a giving company, and Jim Rajner, the sales consultant who helped him at Western Slope Auto, for the exceptional way Rajner treated him.

Pilling has a 2000 Lexus SC 300 picked out to use the rest of his winnings on. Both of the vehicles have been fully paid for by AutoTrader.com. The company even set aside extra funds to pay for taxes, titles and registrations.

The Pillings plan to give away the older vehicles, a Buick LeSabre and a Ford F-150, to keep the good deeds going.

“All my friends tell me that good things happen to good people,” Pilling said.
