Sentinel now a better-organized, easier to read and more content-rich newspaper.

Assembling The Daily Sentinel every day is much like putting together a very large puzzle. There are hundred of pieces, and we have to make them all fit together.

Beginning today, the puzzle will look a little different to readers. The first thing you’re going to see when you turn the front page is a Page 2A that is unlike it was Sunday. It’s the first of many changes you’ll see in your newspaper in the coming days.

We think, and hope you agree, they all add up to a better-organized, easier to read and more content-rich newspaper.

On 2A and 3A today, and every day hereafter, you will find the bulk of the local news that isn’t on the front page.

All of that local news used to be on Page 1B every day except Monday, when there was no dedicated space for local news, and we put it wherever we could find room. Now it will be on 2A and 3A every day.

The weather, which used to fill most of 2A, is still there. It is smaller but has more data than before. We’ve included river flows and lake levels, among other things.

Because we’ve moved local news to the front of the paper, making the paper read more logically, that has freed up Page 1B every day for other purposes.

Here’s what you’ll find:

•  Mondays will be Sports, just as it has been for years.

•  Tuesdays will be Health & Wellness.

•  Wednesdays will be Outside, an expanded outdoors page that, in addition to the traditional hunting and
fishing stories, will include stories about many outdoor activities.

•  Thursdays, Sports.

•  Fridays, Business.

•  Saturdays, Home & Garden.

•  Sundays, Business.

On the back of the A section on Saturdays, you’ll find a brand new page. It’s dubbed “Your Weekend” and is a guide to things to do in the Grand Valley.

Some of our popular columnists and features will move off the B section front, most of them to a newly designed “Planner” page. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that page will be in the same location every day, but it will be indexed. We’ll pay much more attention to indexing and guiding readers from the front to other sections of the paper.

Our popular “You Said It” columns also will move to the Planner page on Saturdays and Sundays, and the columns will be nearly 50 percent longer than they have been.

We think this is a much-improved Daily Sentinel, and hope you do, too. As always, we want to hear what you think.
