Sentinel sweeps awards for 3rd year
The Daily Sentinel once again was recognized as the best newspaper in its classification in a Friday night award ceremony by the Colorado Press Association in downtown Denver.
It won for overall general excellence in four categories — editorial, online, advertising, and photo and design.
This is the third year in a row that the Sentinel has been honored with the general excellence sweepstakes award.
Sentinel staffers also won a second sweepstakes award for online content and tied for the editorial sweepstakes award with the Greeley Tribune.
Also during the ceremony, the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters organization bestow- ed a prestigious Best of Show award on Daily Sentinel photographer Gretel Daugherty.
Her winning entry was a striking photo of the aftermath of a natural gas explosion that rocked a Grand Junction neighborhood last year.
A litany of industry accolades were won by Sentinel staffers Friday. Citations from the Editors and Reporters organization were also given for: Feature Photo (Christopher Tomlinson, second place); General Excellence (Staff, second place); General News Photo (Gretel Daugherty, third place); Headline Writing (Rob Moore, first place); Informational Graphic (Robert Garcia, first place).
