Sentinel to become part of auction team

Western Colorado will have a new access point to the auction world of the Internet later this month when boocoo auctions goes online.

The auction site, which goes live on June 21, combines the convenience of local classified advertising and a national reach.

That’s what drew The Daily Sentinel to join up with, Sentinel Publisher Jay Seaton said.

“We see boocoo as a hedge” against other online sources such as craigslist and eBay, both of which have significant reach and problems many consumers don’t anticipate, Seaton said. won’t have the pornographic advertising or the pfishing and other scams that plague the other sites, Seaton said.

The main attraction of, though, is it gives consumers the ability to fashion their searches for local offerings and for sellers to offer their own items to local buyers.

The range of offerings will be similar to other sites, with art, antiques, books and magazines, clothing, shoes and accessories for all ages, automotive and transportation offerings, sporting goods and so on.

The system is arranged so consumers can choose to offerings from within 50 miles, from within the same state or within the nation.

The local emphasis was one of the most attractive features of, Seaton said.

Buyers who look first for local purchases have to worry less about shipping costs and other hassles of selling online and arranging for shipping, Seaton said. also has auction and buy-it-now options for buyers., which boasts, “We put the awe back in auctions,” was founded by two newspaper executives who were looking for ways to allow newspapers, which long have looked to classified advertising as a profit center, to get in on the online auction world, Seaton said.

The organization has made arrangements with newspapers across the nation, including such chains as Cox Newspapers, which previously owned The Daily Sentinel. is now in the beta stage in preparation for the public launch on June 21.
