Sex offender suspected of child porn
A paroled sex offender was arrested on suspicion he had more than 1,000 sexually explicit pictures of children on his workplace computer, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.
Christopher Earl Carlyle, 33, of 2307 County Road 154, No. 21, near Glenwood Springs, is being held without bond in the county jail because of a parole violation.
Carlyle was on parole for a 2008 conviction of crimes against a minor, the Sheriff’s Department said. His parole status restricted him from having a personal computer at home as well as possessing sexually explicit material.
On Wednesday morning, detectives executed simultaneous search warrants of his residence, vehicle and workplace, Aspen Moving and Storage in Glenwood Springs. Carlyle was detained as he was trying to leave work and arrested the same morning after detectives found the pictures on his computer and printouts and videos of the same type of material in his home, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The investigation began when Aspen Moving and Storage’s Internet service provider audited Carlyle’s e-mail accounts after noticing several hits on Web sites of a sexually explicit nature, the Sheriff’s Department said. The provider sent the information to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which conducted an investigation.
Carlyle was advised Thursday of charges including violation of parole, one felony count of Internet sexual exploitation of a child and five counts of felony sexual exploitation of children.
